(Jennings County, Ind.) - Jennings County Sheriff's Deputy Alex Campbell was on patrol when he observed a motorcycle moving at an incredible rate of speed.
Deputy Campbell clocked the motorcycle traveling 118 miles per hour in a posted 35 MPH zone.
That means this motorcycle was traveling 83 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, more than three times the legal speed.
"At 118 MPH, things happen incredibly fast. A vehicle pulling out, a pedestrian stepping into the roadway, an animal crossing, or the slightest loss of control can turn into a tragedy in an instant. There simply isn't much time to react when you're traveling at that speed," reads a statement from the Jennings County Sheriff's Office.
The motorcyclist was pulled over and arrested.
"A sports bike may be capable of reaching incredible speeds, but that doesn't mean those speeds belong on a public roadway, especially in a 35 MPH zone. 83 MPH over the speed limit is not a mistake. It's a serious danger to everyone on the road."
The name of the driver was not released.
