New Grocery Store Set To Open At Old IGA In Dillsboro

The former IGA store went up for sale in July.

(Dillsboro, Ind.) – The Town of Dillsboro is awaiting the opening of a new grocery store.

The former IGA location on Main Street went up for sale in July. The IGA has long been a staple of the Dillsboro community, opening in 1977 under Rick and Mary Fields.

Following Rick’s death in 2015, the business was sold in 2016 to the Patel brothers. The Patel’s grocery closed in May, putting the property back in possession of Fields.

Dillsboro’s Economic Development Director Susan Greco announced Friday that the property has been sold to Perry and Meggie Parmar.

The Parmar’s are no stranger to running small grocery stores. They currently own small grocery stores in Holton, Cross Plains and Kent.

According to Greco, the couple plans to open shop in Dillsboro in January.

"Dillsboro has been battling a “food desert” for the better part of this year. The once bustling grocery and fuel stop closed and left the residents of Dillsboro and surrounding community without a source of food. “Many of our residents are seniors or for a variety of other reasons do not have transportation to a grocery. This has been a serious concern of our community leader,” said Greco.

It’s unknown what the name of the grocery will be.
