(Milan, Ind.) – As Milan Community Schools get ready to start a new year, safety is being made a top priority.
Over the summer, new locks were installed on all classroom doors at Milan High School and Milan Middle School.
The ArchiTech locks by Networx were purchased though Marshall Best Security out of Fishers, Indiana for $55,000. Funding for the security system was obtained from the Rising Sun Regional Foundation and the Chester and Ruth Baylor Family Foundation.
The new classroom locks are electronic and can be locked and unlocked with teacher access cards. In addition, each classroom with be equip with a remote control that can lock the door from anywhere in the room.
School resource officers will also have the capability to lock down every classroom simultaneously.
Another feature of the system is its ability to function in the instance of a power outage.
The same type of locks were installed at Milan Elementary School last fall.
Milan Community Schools will start the 2019-2020 school year on Thursday, August 8.
