Milan HS Gym Lobby Expansion Project Awarded to Poole Group

Work is expected to start this summer and will take almost a year to complete.

(Milan, Ind.) - Exciting changes are on the horizon at Milan High School.

Superintendent Jane Rogers tells Eagle Country 99.3 that the Milan High School gym lobby will be expanded with a larger entrance area that will feature upgraded restrooms, concessions, and ticket area.

The project was awarded to the Poole Group this week and will cost $2.5 million to complete.

Rogers says the focal point of the new expanded lobby will be a new trophy room highlighting the 1954 State Championship basketball team, and any new athletic accomplishments in various sports.

The gymnasium itself will not undergo any changes during the work. The gym floor was updated about three years ago and is in good shape.

"The gym and the lobby were developed in 1960, so a few years ago we knew we outlived the usefulness of that gym floor," said Rogers. "That's really when we began to make the plans for the lobby."

The lobby will come out towards the parking lot and will include a drop-off and pick-up area.

Work on the gym lobby isn't expected to start until after graduation. Rogers says the project completion date is set for spring 2023.

"We are hoping by this time next year, even in early May the lobby project will be finished and will be a great time to display it when we have next year's graduation," said Rogers.

Another big change at Milan is the upcoming installation of a multi-use synthetic turf field, which will be used for football, soccer, physical education classes, band, and more.

Rogers says installation is set to begin in the coming weeks and should be completed by August 1, ahead of the start to the fall sports season.

"I have to thank Mike Brandis, our director of operations, because he is in on the construction projects on a daily basis. I appreciate his work and the support of our school board, and most importantly our taxpayers that they understand these renovations are necessary and an important part of our school pride and the pride in our community of Milan. It's a great place to be," said Rogers.
