By Aurora Mayor Mark Drury, news release

The threat of this virus is not gone, how we respond now as a community will determine on how quickly we are able to get the things back which we all enjoy.

(Aurora, Ind.) - The Aurora Office of the Mayor would like to thank the Main Street Aurora Board of Directors for their decision to support 103 entities in downtown Aurora and their decision to provide a $50.00 utility credit to our local retail establishments, churches, organizations, personal services, restaurants, schools and profession businesses in Downtown Aurora.

If an entity in the historic district does not receive credit on your next utility bill, please contact 812-584-7796 or email mainstreet@aurora.in.us.

We would also like to remind the community to show support for our local economy and businesses as the City and County look to get back to some form of normalcy and move into the second stage of the Governor’s five stage plan to reopening the State.

The Governor issued Executive Order 20-26 last Friday, permitting retail businesses to open up today at 50% occupational capacity while complying with social distancing measures. The Governor further permitted religious services and ceremonies to continue on May 8th, restaurants to open to in-person dining at 50% of seating capacity and personal service businesses to open on May 11, and social gatherings to 25 or fewer people with social distancing and sanitation measures.

The governor’s order did not provide an opening date as to when playgrounds or pools will be able to reopen. The City will continue to evaluate the situation and review the State’s guidance in these regards.

Those considered vulnerable should proceed with caution and reconsider plans to leave your home. Most importantly, we ask that everyone take appropriate and proper social distancing and sanitation measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The threat of this virus is not gone, how we respond now as a community will determine on how quickly we are able to get the things back which we all enjoy.
