INDIANAPOLIS - A bill co-authored by State Sen. Randy Maxwell (R-Guilford) that bans foreign adversaries from owning land in Indiana was ceremonially signed into law by the governor today.
Senate Enrolled Act 256 stops foreign adversaries like Iran, China and Russia from buying any land in Indiana. The law builds on House Enrolled Act 1183 from 2024, which banned foreign adversaries from buying Hoosier farmland.
SEA 256 also:
- Requires agents and political organizations from hostile nations to register with the Attorney General;
- Removes foreign agents from critical higher education programs;
- Blocks state funding for any affiliates of foreign terror organizations; and
- Prohibits state or local governments from entering into sensitive technology contracts with businesses controlled by foreign adversaries.
"Our nation's adversaries work every day to upend the American way of life, and we can't sit idly by and let that happen," Maxwell said. "This law is a big step forward for our state and will help ensure we are safe and secure from enemies who look to harm us."
Maxwell encourages residents of Senate District 43 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Maxwell can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Maxwell or by phone at 800-382-9467.
