(Dearborn County, Ind.) – Manchester Elementary School has come a long way in nearly 16 years with Janet Platt as principal. Platt is now being recognized for the job she has done. The Indiana Association of School Principals named her the 2016 District 10 Elementary Principal of the Year at the IASP Fall Professional Conference held November 20 in Indianapolis. “It is definitely nice to be recognized,” Platt says. She was nominated for the award by another South Dearborn Community Schools principal, Dillsboro Elementary’s Sam Melton. Since becoming the Manchester Elementary principal in 2001, Platt has seen the school named a Four Star School by the Indiana Department of Education and consistently post test scores that are well above the state average. The humble principal gives the credit to her teaching staff. “It’s because they do such a great job that it makes my job of being principal easy,” says Platt. Platt is a Greendale resident who graduated from Lawrenceburg High School. She has spent her entire education career with South Dearborn Community Schools, starting as a teacher at Aurora Elementary School in 1990.
