The state as a whole saw great growth in third grade literacy rates.

(Batesville, Ind.) - The Batesville Community School Corporation (BCSC) has placed in the top five for 2025 IREAD scores among in-person public schools in Indiana, according to results recently released by the Indiana Department of Education. Batesville also earned the highest pass percentage among schools in southeast Indiana.
Batesville Intermediate School third graders took the assessment this past spring as part of Indiana’s required literacy benchmark. An outstanding 98.8 percent of students demonstrated reading proficiency — an increase over BCSC’s already-strong past results.

“This remarkable achievement reflects the hard work of our 2024–25 third-grade students as well as our dedicated Pre-K to grade 3 educators and staff who worked tirelessly as a team to reach this goal,” said BCSC Superintendent Paul Ketcham. “I also want to thank our families for reinforcing literacy skills at home. The entire Bulldog community came together to make this happen, and I couldn’t be prouder.”
Statewide, literacy rates among third graders rose by nearly five percentage points — the largest single-year increase on record.
