(Versailles, Ind.) – A Madison man was taken into custody after a police chase through Ripley and Jefferson counties.
On December 17, Indiana State Police-Versailles was patrolling U.S. 421 in southern Ripley County around 6:00 p.m. when a black 2003 Mitsubishi was observed traveling at a high rate of speed.
The driver, Shane Melton, 32, continued on U.S. 421 into Jefferson County towards Madison after ISP attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
The pursuit lasted nearly 14 miles before Melton lost control of his vehicle while attempting to navigate the round-a-bout on U.S. 421 at State Road 62.
Melton was taken into custody and charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, and Operator Having Never Received a Driver’s License. He was transported to Ripley County Jail.
