Two of our three goals were by kids who came in off the bench, this speaks to our depth of talented kids, not just the kids who start the game but the ones who give us a much needed spark off the bench. According to coach Fr. Jonathan Meyer, the Lady Trojans were led by Abby Bittner, a sophomore who placed 4th overall, running a time of 21:05. One year ago she placed 15- quite an improvement. It looks as if she is going to be a strong leader again this year. Following close behind Bittner was newcomer Lauren Greiwe, a freshman, who placed a strong 14th overall. Other scoring Trojans were Senior Megan Hay, Junior Kylie Gindling and Freshman Mary Bertke. The girls team placed 7th overall; but their score was greatly impacted by a Senior Sarah Ruehl who was not able to be at the race. We look for a string season from the Lady Trojans.
The boys team fared well placing 8th overall, an improvement in team standings from last year. The team has no senior runners this year. The team was led by Junior Alex Pruitt who ran a time of 18:15 for the 3.1 mile race (a 2 min and 20 sec improvement from last year). “It was a great day for us. The loss against Lutheran makes it seem a little less successful than it really was. We fought every point of every match. Both Tri-West and Lutheran were long matches that went point for point and we were pushed to 3 sets in both,” said EC Coach Cassie Laker.
“Our biggest struggle right now is the mental aspect of volleyball...making good decisions in pressure situations. We lost too many points at the end of a game due to our own mistakes. Ultimately, that's what lost our match against Lutheran. They were a strong team with a big front row, but we competed with them until there was no other option but to score a point. In those situations, we lacked mental strength.”
