Local Home Prices Rise In Janaury

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - New home sales numbers are out for southeast Indiana showing 2012 is getting off to a slower start in the local housing market.

The Indiana Association of Realtors’ January 2012 Housing Market Update shows 3,458 single family homes, condos, or townhomes were sold statewide during the month, up 13.9 percent from 3,037 in the same month last year.

Median prices on those statewide sales were at $101,000, a one percent improvement.

Southeast Indiana’s housing market stats left some reason to be optimistic about the next 11 months.

Dearborn County home sales totaled 18 in January, down 30.8 percent from 26 sold in January 2011. The median sales price did improve, however, by 26 percent to $135,750.

Ripley County saw home sales improve 38 percent to 11 sales in January. Median selling prices increased 36.4 percent from a year ago to $168,500 this past month.

Franklin and Ohio counties saw one home sold in January. Switzerland County witnessed two sales.
