Leising Meets Indiana Students During Senate Committee

The students testified in support of Senate Bill 146, which would make regulatory changes to youth employment laws

State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) represents Senate District 42, which includes Decatur, Fayette, Ripley and Rush counties, and portions of Franklin, Jennings and Shelby counties.

INDIANAPOLIS – State Senator Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) recently met with several local students during the Senate Committee on Commerce and Technology meeting.

The students testified in support of Senate Bill 146, which would make regulatory changes to youth employment laws, because they want expanded opportunities to learn and develop professional skills in the workplace.

Senate Bill 146 would allow a person who is at least 18 years of age ring up a sale of alcoholic beverages in the course of the person’s employment. The legislation would allow a waiter, waitress, or server who is at least 18 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages in a dining room of a restaurant or hotel under certain conditions.

The bill would also provide an exemption from the law regarding employment of minors for a legal entity in which a parent of the employed minor, or a person standing in place of the parent, has an ownership interest.
