By Mike Perleberg File photo. (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - American Electric Power has been given state approval to sell its natural-gas power plant in Lawrenceburg. Last September, AEP announced plans to sell the local gas-fired plant to Lightstone Generation and Lawrenceburg Power as part of a $2.17 billion package including three other plants in Ohio. The deal was expected to close in the first quarter of 2017. Lightstone Generation is a joint venture of Blackstone Group LP and ArcLight Capital Partners. Lawrenceburg Power is a unit of Lightstone Generation. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved the companies’ application on January 4. The power plant along U.S. 50 began operating in 2004. AEP purchased it for $325 million from Public Service Enterprise Group in 2007. The 1,224 megawatt plant has four combustion turbine generators and two steam turbine generators. RELATED STORIES: AEP Selling Lawrenceburg Natural Gas Plant
