INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division partnered with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) for the CVSA Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative from January 13-17.

During that time, the organizations sought to empower commercial motor vehicle drivers, motor carriers, law enforcement officers, and the general public with crucial knowledge about human trafficking, how to recognize its signs and what actions to take if they suspect someone is being trafficked.

During the initiative, ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement units discussed the human trafficking problem with and distributed 1,481 wallet cards and other brochures to drivers of the 696 commercial vehicles they inspected.

“Commercial motor vehicle drivers serve as the eyes and ears of America, often working in locations where human trafficking may occur, such as truck stop parking lots, rest areas, or commercial facilities that could potentially exploit labor trafficking victims. By training members of the commercial motor vehicle industry to recognize the indicators of human trafficking, we can collectively help combat this issue,” reads a statement from Indiana State Police.

The initiative also included 10 outreach events and eight media interviews to amplify awareness.
