(Greendale, Ind.) - A police chase involving a police cruiser stolen in Ohio went through northern Kentucky before coming to an end in southeastern Indiana early Thursday morning.

A woman reportedly stole a police cruiser from the Forest Park Police Department at around 12:30 a.m., according to Greendale Police Sgt. Kevin Turner.

The suspect drove away on Interstate 275 into Kentucky, where Lakeside Park Police spotted the stolen cruiser and tried to initiate a stop. However, the suspect sped off.

Officers with Greendale Police, Lawrenceburg Police, and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department were waiting along the interstate as the pursuit entered Indiana at around 1:16 a.m. Those officers successfully deployed stop sticks as the fleeing driver crossed the I-275 Carroll C. Cropper Bridge.

After crashing down an embankment at the Lawrenceburg-Greendale exit, she tried to get away. However, the door of the police cruiser wouldn’t open.

“The driver then broke out the window of the car and attempted to flee, however, she was apprehended by Greendale Police,” said Turner.

A Lawrenceburg Police officer chasing the suspect suffered a minor injury. The officer went to Highpoint Health for treatment and has been released.

The suspect is 20-year-old Mary Janay Taylor, of Cincinnati. She has been booked into jail at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on charges of Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Resisting Law Enforcement by Fleeing Resulting in Bodily Injury, Auto Theft, and Criminal Mischief.

“Everybody worked really well together between Kentucky and all of our guys over here. It made for a pretty easy capture once she crossed the border,” said Turner.
