I-74 In Dearborn County Is Getting $20M Worth Of Repaving

You may have noticed some work crews on I-74 on August 1. They are going to be sticking around for a while.

(Dearborn County, Ind.) - A $20.3 million asphalt resurfacing project is about to begin and last for more than a year on Interstate 74 in Dearborn County.

Orange barrels will be going up for 16 miles between State Road 101 and the Ohio state lane. The first phase of the project will be completed this fall, then milling and paving will start in July 2020.

Some preliminary work started Thursday, August 1 on I-74 Eastbound just east of the ongoing road work at Sunman, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation. Lane closures are scheduled to begin Monday, August 5 on I-74 Eastbound, then crews will start patching and replacing concrete the following week. 

The work will begin at S.R. 101 and progress eastward to the state line. The eastbound lanes will be completed before crews switch to the westbound lanes.

INDOT says work crews will be active on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Travelers are urged to slow down and exercise caution in and near the work zone.

John R. Jurgensen Company is the state’s contractor for the highway project.

Another road project on I-74 from S.R. 101 in Sunman to New Point in Decatur County is in its final phase. Reconstructing that 16-mile stretch of I-74 is on a $61 million contract has had I-74 down to one lane each direction since 2017. The lane closures will go away this fall, with all work set to be completed next spring.
