(Ripley County, Ind.) - One person is in custody after SWAT was called to a Ripley County residence on Tuesday.
It was approximately 3:20 a.m. when Ripley County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home on County Road 500 N, outside of Holton for a report of a male, later identified as Micah Hewitt, who unlawfully entered a residence.
The caller reported there were two adults and two children in the residence, hiding in a bathroom.
Deputies surrounded the residence and escorted the family out through a bedroom window to safety. A short time later, deputies used a public address system requesting Hewitt exit the home and surrender. The Indiana State Police responded and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) was called to the scene.
Once a search warrant was obtained, and after several hours of ordering Hewitt to exit the home and surrender, SWAT made a forced entry into the home. At that time, Hewitt came to a door and surrendered peacefully.
Hewitt had two active felony warrants in Ripley County and had been evading arrest since 2023.
