Highpoint Health Launches Campaign For $35M Cancer Center

The City of Lawrenceburg is pledging $5 million toward the cost of at least $30 million.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Highpoint Health Foundation officially launched its Hearing, Helping, Healing Capital Campaign at an introductory dinner held on January 24 at the Lawrenceburg Event Center. Highlighting the evening was an announcement from the City of Lawrenceburg that it has pledged 5 million dollars to the fund drive, whose focal point is the construction of a new     state-of-the-art cancer center in Dearborn County.   

“We, at the City of Lawrenceburg, greatly appreciate the extraordinary value the Hospital brings to our community from the prospectives of saving lives and maintaining the quality of life to its current and future economic impact,” stated Kelly Mollaun, Mayor of the City of Lawrenceburg.  “Highpoint Health is one of our region’s greatest assets and has been and continues to be a true blessing for our residents.  It is with great pleasure that I make this pledge of 5 million dollars on behalf of the Lawrenceburg City Council, the City of Lawrenceburg and most importantly, the citizens of Lawrenceburg who will be the true beneficiaries of this investment.”

“I accept this most generous pledge from the City with tremendous gratitude,” said Michael W. Schwebler, Highpoint Health President and CEO.  “For years it has been a dream of those associated with the Hospital to construct a state-of-the-art cancer center in Dearborn County.  Now, this dream will soon be a reality.  The center’s patients will have access to the highest level of world class diagnostic, therapeutic and treatment services.”

The Hearing, Helping, Healing Campaign will support two primary initiatives: the construction of a cancer center in Dearborn County and an increase in the overall Highpoint Health Foundation endowment.

Founded upon the support of key members of the Southeastern Indiana community, the Campaign is led by the Highpoint Health Foundation and Highpoint Health Administration along with an extensive committee of community leaders.  Those assuming primary leadership positions in the Campaign are Senator Chip Perfect, Honorary Chairperson; E.G. McLaughlin and John L. Maxwell, General Campaign Co-Chairpersons; and Robert “Rocky” Schroeder and Jim Deaton, Lead Gift Co-Chairpersons.  These individuals are supported in the Campaign by a dedicated team of local citizens and hospital employees.   

To date, the Campaign has generated $5,500,000 toward the center’s projected cost of $30,000,000 to $35,000,000.  The goal of the Hearing, Helping, Healing Campaign is to raise as much as possible toward the overall initial investment.  Highpoint Health receives no recurring revenue from government sources and is funded by the services it provides to the community.
