(Friendship, Ind.) - The Friendship Volunteer Fire Department has put a "new to us" truck into service.

The 2001 Freightliner FL80 with 2,000 gallons of water and a GPM PTO pump was officially put into service last month.

According to Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, the truck has less than 12,000 miles and less than 700 engine hours. For reference, the department's old truck had over 240,000 miles and 8,000 engine hours.

The unit features three 10-inch dump values, five-inch fill capability, "on spot" tire chains for slick roads and a 2,000-gallon portable tank.

Firefighters have been working to complete upgrades that include additional lighting, cameras, and fittings.

"We would like to once again thank our community and supporters, without you, we would not be able to undertake projects of this magnitude," reads a statement from the department.
