(San Diego, Calif.) – Shelby Lake and Rylie Seaver, seniors at East Central High School, have been elected to the 2016-2017 National Executive Council of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Shelby Lake was elected Vice President of Development; she is responsible to provide leadership in seeking and continuing corporate sponsorships for the organization's programs and events. Rylie Seaver was elected FCCLA National President, she shall preside over all business meetings of the organization and of the National Executive Council; be a member of the National Board of Directors; appoint, after consultation with the Chair of the National Board of Directors and executive director, the chairperson and members of all executive council committees; and be a member ex officio of all National Executive Council committees. Lake and Seaver are two of ten national officers elected during the 2016 National Leadership Conference, held July 3rd – 7th in San Diego, California. Being elected a national officer is the highest leadership honor an FCCLA member can achieve. Lake and Seaver’s election took place during a five-day leadership event centered on the theme, “EMPOWERED.” During the week, more than 8,000 FCCLA members, advisers, alumni, and guests attended workshops and sessions on relevant youth issues such as career preparation, financial literacy, environmental education, traffic safety, community service, and leadership development. Along with eight other members of the National Executive Council, Lake and Seaver will travel to FCCLA national headquarters in Reston, Virginia, during the year to attend training and program planning sessions. They will also help set policies and develop future goals for the organization as a committee member of the FCCLA National Board of Directors. During the year, Shelby Lake, Rylie Seaver and the other national officers will represent the organization by leading workshops and giving speeches locally and throughout the country, in addition to helping plan the focus and content of FCCLA’s 2017 National Leadership Conference, to be held July 2nd – 6th, in Nashville, Tennessee. Shelby Lake is the daughter of Roger and Donna Lake of Sunman. Rylie Seaver is the daughter of Cari Kettman and Rick Seaver, of Bright. Brenda Osman is the East Central High School FCCLA chapter adviser.
