Driver's BAC Was .234 In Deadly Crash

Logan Ellis

Boone Co. Sheriff's Dept.

(Walton, Ky.) - A man accused of causing a double fatal drunk driving crash in Northern Kentucky was in court Monday.

Boone County Sheriff's investigators say Logan Ellis was at the wheel of a car which crashed on Dixie Highway in Richwood in the early monring hours of Saturday, December 10.

Ellis’ passengers, 21-year-old Heather Stanley and 43-year-old Stacy Hopkins, both of Dry Ridge, were killed. He escaped the crash with only minor injuries.

On Monday, prosecutors told the Boone District Court judge Ellis had a BAC of .234 and was doing 86 MPH at the time of the crash. The group had left a Florence sports bar just minutes earlier.

The judge ruled during Monday's hearing that Ellis' case could be bound to a grand jury.

This incident was not Ellis’ first time in trouble for alcohol. He was convicted of underage drinking in 2009.

Ellis, 22, is charged with wanton Murder, DUI, and driving without insurance. He faces 20 years to life for the Murder charge.

He was ordered held at the Boone County Jail on $100,000 bond.
