Deadly Gallatin County Fire Claims Second Life

A woman who initially escaped the house fire succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.

(Warsaw, Ky.) – A little over a week after a fire claimed a man’s life in Gallatin County, a second person has lost their life.

Mae Wallace passed away in the burn unit at UC Medical Center on Saturday at the age of 78, reports Local 12-WKRC.

Wallace was hospitalized following a fire at 1157 Sayersville Road in the early morning hours of January 17. She was able to flee the blaze but was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

Her nephew, Kenneth Higgins, 56, did not make it out of the home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The home was fully engulfed in flames and a total loss.

A cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, the Kentucky State Fire Marshall and Kentucky State Police.
