Man Killed In Gallatin Co. House Fire

A woman made it out of the burning home Thursday morning, but her adult nephew did not.

(Warsaw, Ky.) – A man died in an early morning house fire near Warsaw.

The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office says the deadly fire was reported just before 1:30 a.m. at 1157 Sayersville Road.

The home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. Kenneth Higgins, 56, did not make it out of the home and died.

Higgins' aunt, Mae Wallace, was also in the residence when the fire began. She was able to flee the blaze, but was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters with Gallatin County Fire Department, Glencoe Fire Department and Verona Fire Department responded.

A cause of the fire remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office, the Kentucky State Fire Marshal, and Kentucky State Police.

Flames roared through the home and destroyed it, according to video shot at the scene by GC Video News LLC and posted to their Facebook page.
