DCF Helps Local Organizations With COVID-19 Relief Aid

More than $82,000 has been granted to 10 local organizations.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Dearborn Community Foundation (DCF) recently awarded a total of $82,500 in grants to 10 organizations serving Dearborn County those in need during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak.

The grant funds were proactively awarded primarily to five food pantries and four other organizations serving folks in need. DCF also awarded a grant to support an animal shelter. All of the grants are aimed at helping the organizations serve clients during an unprecedented time of challenge in our country, said Fred McCarter, Executive Director of DCF.

“With the help of our generous donors, we are proud to help address some of the immediate needs of organizations helping Dearborn County residents being impacted in ways we’ve not experienced in our lifetimes,” McCarter said. “We focused on food pantries that serve a diverse portion of our population impacted by job loss, and other organizations that assist the more vulnerable residents in our community, including older adults and individuals with disabilities.”

The 10 organizations receiving the $82,500 in special COVID-19 funding include:

· Dearborn County Clearinghouse for Emergency Aid, Inc. (food pantry located in Aurora)

· North Dearborn Pantry, Inc., (food pantry located in Bright)

· St. Vincent de Paul (food pantry located in Aurora)

· Moores Hill Food Pantry

· Dillsboro Community Food Pantry

· Heart House, Inc. (homeless shelter, Aurora)

· LifeTime Resources, Inc. (serves older adults, individuals with disabilities, and caregivers of those populations throughout Dearborn County)

· Pregnancy Care Center (to provide formula, diapers and wipes for new mothers and their babies throughout Dearborn County)

· Safe Passage, Inc. (women and children’s shelter)

· Partners for Animal Welfare Society of Dearborn County/PAWS (to provide food and other needs of the animal shelter due to no adoptions taking place at this time)

McCarter said the $82,500 in grant funds were made possible through DCF’s Lawrenceburg Community Grant Program, funded by the City of Lawrenceburg, and by four of the Foundation’s donor-advised endowment funds: PFC Craig A. Keller Memorial Fund; the Lehner Family Fund: the Powell Family Fund; and the Rupel Family Fund.

“These grants certainly wouldn’t be possible without the support of the City of Lawrenceburg and the generous donors who established these donor-advised funds,” said McCarter. “We are blessed in Dearborn County to have so many individuals, organizations and businesses who are stepping up to support the increased needs during this unprecedented time in our community and nation.”
