(Petersburg, Ky.) - Two men with vastly different views on how the world came to be will debate here next month.
Ken Ham is the founder of Answers in Genesis, the religious organization behind the Creation Museum in Petersburg. Bill Nye “The Science Guy” is a scientist and former television personality.
The debate will center around the question “is creation a viable model of origins in today’s modern scientific era?”
Nye, whose television show was popular among kids in the 1990’s, appears on news programs today to advocate for the theory of evolution. The current Executive Director of the Planetary Society said last year that teaching creationism – the idea that Earth and its inhabitants were created by a supernatural being – is bad for children.
“This year, our AiG theme is ‘Standing Our Ground, Rescuing Our Kids.’ Having the opportunity to hold a cordial but spirited debate with such a well-known personality who is admired by so many young people will help bring the creation/evolution issue to the attention of many more people, including youngsters,” Ham said in an announcement on the Answers in Genesis website.
Ham and Nye will debate at the Creation Museum on Tuesday, February 4. Museum officials say the event will be held in the museum’s 900-seat Legacy Hall.
Tickets will be sold for $25 each starting January 6 at http://www.answersingenesis.org/outreach/event/Nye-Ham-Debate/.
