(Boone County, Ky.) - Boone County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to an accident with extrication early Monday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 42 and Bleu Yacht Lane.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2019 Kenworth dump truck was traveling northbound on U.S. 42 behind a 2014 Chevy Silverado. When the Silverado slowed to a stop on the roadway, the dump truck, despite clear evidence of braking and attempting to avoid the collision, struck the right ready passenger side of the Silverado.

The impact caused the Silverado to veer into oncoming traffic, where it was involved in a second collision with another dump truck.

The operator of the Silverado was identified as Hermon Lewis Estes Jr., 75, of Covington. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Both dump trucks were fully loaded at the time of the collision, and the collisions were captured by their respective on-board dash cameras. No other injuries were reported, and there were no passengers in any of the vehicles involved.

However, one driver was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence for evaluation, while the other declined medical treatment at the scene.
