Clown Tweets Raise Concerns For Police, Schools

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A creepy clown Twitter account is no joking matter for worried parents and students. The Twitter account generating many worries since Wednesday is called “Clown Clan”. Colerain Township Police say the Twitter user “seems interested in causing annoyance and alarm to communities.” The account’s tweets insinuated clown activity against schools including Colerain, East Central, and Harrison. One post on Wednesday – since deleted – also referenced Tuesday’s lockdown at Lawrenceburg schools. Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Brian Jansen said Thursday the department has received complaints and is investigating the matter. The Lawrenceburg Police Department said it is aware of the post about Lawrenceburg Schools and are watching the situation. Authorities and schools do not think the clown threats are funny and warn those making threats that they will be found and prosecuted. A junior high school student is finding that to be true after Colerain Township Police announced an arrest late Thursday night. The suspect allegedly threatened to harm students at school on Friday. As police put it, the suspect used the clown trend to further terrorize parents and students. “We will continue to be vigilant and act quickly when criminals threaten our community and our children,” the Colerain Township Police Department said in a statement on Facebook. It’s unclear if the suspect arrested by Colerain Police Thursday is connected to the Clown Clann Twitter account, which continued to tweet Friday morning about visiting another Cincinnati area school. In yet another case, a student at Gallatin County Schools is facing charges after making threats against the schools using another clown moniker social media account. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday it has been made aware of several reports of subjects dressed in clown outfits, acting in a suspicious manner. However, the reports have so far been unfounded, the sheriff’s office said. “With that being said, we will continue to encourage the public to make a report to our dispatch center at 859-371-1234, if and when they see any suspicious activity that would warrant a response. As always, reason and good judgement goes a long way in determining when to make the call,” the sheriff’s office stated. RELATED STORIES: Gallatin Co.
