By Mike Perleberg (Cleves, Oh.) - The Village of Cleves is going to need a new mayor after Danny Stacy resigned suddenly. Longtime mayor Stacy resigned from the office with a surprise announcement at Wednesday’s village council meeting. The resignation was effective that same date. "I've been dedicated to this village my entire life and have enjoyed serving in some capacity over the last 14 years. Unfortunately, my personal and family commitments have become so demanding of my time that I feel I’m no longer able to offer the time and effort the Village should expect of its Mayor,” he said. Stacy is a lifelong Cleves resident. Before becoming mayor, he served on the Three Rivers School Board. Voters re-elected him to a second four-year term in 2015. With Stacy gone, vice mayor Jan Rouse has chosen by the council to serve as acting mayor for the rest of 2017. An election will be held in November for Cleves residents to elect a new mayor to serve the remainder of Stacy’s term through 2019. “I’ve served on Council and as Vice Mayor for over 5 years. The Village of Cleves has made many great changes in recent years with Danny Stacy as Mayor. I’m looking forward to working with Village Administrator Mike Rahall and the rest of Council to continue the positive momentum and growth," said Rouse. Rouse’s council seat is left vacant. People who might be interested in filling the vacancy should submit a resume and letter of intent to jan.rouse@cleves.org by March 7. Rouse moving up to mayor has allowed village council member Stephen Myers to rise to vice mayor for 2017.
