By Mike Perleberg Lynn Deddens, deputy prosecutor in the Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor's Office. (Dearborn County, Ind.) - There’s at least one person who wants to take the helm as Dearborn and Ohio County’s next prosecuting attorney. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lynn Deddens on Monday filed to fill the upcoming vacancy. According to Dearborn County Clerk of Courts Rick Probst, Deddens is the only person to identify herself as a candidate for the position so far. Deddens is currently the chairwoman of the Dearborn County Republican Party. She has worked in the prosecutor's office since 2003. Current Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard notified the Dearborn County Clerk of Courts Office on November 28 that he is resigning effective January 6, 2017. Negangard, a Republican, is leaving the local post to become the chief deputy at Indiana Attorney General’s Office under newly-elected attorney general Curtis Hill. Dearborn and Ohio County Republican Party precinct committee members will caucus on Wednesday, December 21 to pick a new prosecutor to fill the remainder of Negangard’s term, which runs through 2018. The public caucus will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Dearborn County Administration Building. Probst said the notice submitted on December 8 designated Dearborn County Republican Party vice chairman Jim Thatcher as the presider of the joint Dearborn and Ohio County Republican Caucus. There is still time for other interested individuals to declare their interest in being selected prosecutor. "Filing must be with Clerk Office and with Thatcher since he is chairing the caucus," said Probst. "Any filing must be received at least 72 hours prior to caucus." Ohio County Clerk of Courts Jamie Stegemiller said Monday she has not received formal notice of Negangard’s resignation or for the Republican caucus to select his successor.
