CDC Recommends Cancelling, Postponing Gatherings Of 50+ People

Schools, bars, restaurants and casinos are among the places people won't be gathering over the next several weeks.

(Undated) - The number of people that can be at a large gathering is decreasing.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says gatherings of 50 or more people should be cancelled or postponed over the next eight weeks.

Examples of large events and mass gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies.

This recommendation does not apply to the day to day operation of organizations such as schools, institutes of higher learning, or businesses. This recommendation is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus. The CDC added that the recommendation is not intended to supersede the advice of local public health officials.

Still local schools, colleges and/or universities have switched to eLearning or remote instruction for the next several weeks. Bars and restaurants are shutting down too. Although, most restaurants will still offer delivery, carryout and drive-thru services.

The Indiana Gaming Commission has temporarily suspended operations at all casinos in the state. The same is being done in Ohio.
