(Friendship, Ind.) - The biggest nine days of the year are getting started in Friendship.

The National Muzzleloading Rifle Association’s Spring National Shoot begins Saturday, June 8 and continues through Sunday, June 16. The event attracts hundreds of muzzleloading marksmen and women from across the country and around the world.

“The Spring Nationals are always fun due to all the families and kids who are able to attend. The Junior National Championships are held this week to accommodate the larger presence of our youth,” says Joe Hill, a West Harrison resident serving as president of the NMLRA Executive Committee.

Just as big as the shooting competition is the Friendship Flea Market. It brags almost 500 vendors with new and used antiques and collectibles. The market begins Friday, June 7 with a special preview event and concert, then runs each day through June 16.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has halted road construction on State Road 62 and reopened the highway between Friendship and Dillsboro, making it easier for visitors to get there and back. S.R. 62 will remain open until June 19 when work restarts.

The NMLRA’s Fall National Shoot will happen in September, again accompanied by the Friendship Flea Market.
