By Mike Perleberg (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A local attorney has been named the new judge of Lawrenceburg City Court. On Monday, Indiana Governor Mike Pence named Joseph Johns as the court's judge. "I'm grateful today to name Joseph Johns as Lawrenceburg City Court Judge," said Pence. "I'm confident that Mr. Johns will continue to serve Hoosiers well in this new role." The city court's bench was left empty when Judge Charles "Chuck" Evans, fresh off a successful re-election, suffered a stroke in November and later died of congestive heart failure December 3 at the age of 65. Attorney Alan Miller had previously been serving as the interim judge following Evans' death. Johns currently serves as an attorney at Votaw & Schwarz Law in Lawrenceburg. He has also served as Counsel for the City of Lawrenceburg's Advisory Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Historic Preservation Commission. Johns is a member of the Indiana Bar Association and Dearborn-Ohio County Bar Association, and was previously a member of the Indiana Public Defender Council and the Lawrenceburg Main Street Association Board of Directors. Johns earned his undergraduate degree from Northern Kentucky University and his law degree from Salmon P. Chase College of Law. RELATED STORIES: Lawrenceburg City Judge Chuck Evans, 65, Dies
