(Boone County, Ky.) – Not everyone is thrilled that a new Amazon Air Hub is being constructed at Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport.
While the $1.5 billion, three-million-square foot cargo hub will bring 2,000-plus jobs to northern Kentucky, some area residents have had several complaints about the project.
Nearby residents have complained about blasting that has the capability of shaking an entire house. Some believe the blasts have caused substantial damage to their homes, while others have complained the blasts have caused stress to their children and pets.
On Tuesday, Andrew Vance and Greg Dringenburg filed a class action complaint against Whiting-Turner/Kokosing Joint Venture. The complaint seeks a temporary nuisance order and jury demand against the partnership formed by contractors to build the Amazon cargo hub.
The plaintiffs say nearby residents have been “subjected to excessive dust, excessive blasting noise and heavy equipment noise for more than year, and the nuisance conditions continue unabated.”
For those reasons, the plaintiffs and members of the class action say the construction has unreasonably interfered with their use and enjoyment of their property.
A Boone County Circuit Court judge will ultimately decide whether to allow the complaint to become a class-action suit, which would allow Boone County residents that live within one mile of the construction site to join the lawsuit.
According to court documents, its likely that 100 or more property owners are in the class.
Due to the large amount of complaints, the plaintiffs are seeking punitive damages.
The filed complaint can be seen at www.scribd.com.
As for the Amazon Air Hub, the construction completion date is set for sometime in 2021. When completed, the facility will be capable of holding up to 100 aircrafts.
