Purdue Extension in Dearborn and Franklin Counties are partnering to offer a fall Master Gardener class beginning on September 15. If you've wanted to sharpen your gardening skills, and you have an interest in sharing your knowledge with others, Purdue University Extension has the ideal program for you.
The Master Gardener course will be offered for residents of Dearborn and Franklin County. Others from the surrounding area are also welcome to sign up. The Master Gardener Program is a nationwide volunteer training program which offers an extensive course in horticulture in exchange for a donation of volunteer hours to help teach others what you have learned. Completion of the class is also an excellent résumé booster.
Classes will be held September 15 to December 15 on Thursdays from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Dearborn Adult Center located at 311 W Tate St, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025. Participants will learn about a wide range of subjects including soil and plant nutrition, vegetable gardening, wildlife control, and pesticide safety.
A $175 fee will be charged to enroll. The fee includes all course materials, light refreshments at all meetings, and other educational resources. While the class will be encouraged to create new educational outreach programs in their communities, there are already plenty of opportunities for which volunteers are needed. Some of these projects include teaching public education classes at local schools & libraries, speaking to local clubs and organizations, and developing gardens at local parks.
