Passport to the Past is showcasing history sites in the Harrison, Ohio, area. Passport to the Past is a one-day event where local historical sites are all open on the same day so visitors are able to experience Harrison area history. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, October 29. All sites will be open from 2 – 5 p.m., with Fernald Preserve having extended hours.
· The Harrison Village Historical Society Museum – 115 N. Walnut St., Harrison, Ohio.
This museum displays items of historical significance to Harrison and the surrounding area.
· Othneil Looker Home – 10580 Marvin Rd., Harrison, Ohio.
Looker was the fifth governor of Ohio. He built his family’s home in Harrison in 1804.
· White Water Shaker Village – 11813 Oxford Rd., Harrison, OH
The brick meeting house (the last Shaker brick meeting house in existence) was built in 1827. Shakers lived here until 1916.
· Fernald Feed Materials Production Center (now Fernald Preserve) – 7400 Willey Rd, Hamilton, Ohio
You can explore a self-guided .25 mile trail titled “Weapons to Wetlands” to learn the history of Fernald. Fernald Preserve is open from 9 - 5pm.
· Passmore Cabin – 9139 Baughman Road, Harrison, Ohio.
It is named in honor of the first known owners of the cabin. It is believed to have been in existence prior to 1818.
