Sectional Pairings Released for 52nd Annual IHSAA Volleyball State Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – The Road to Muncie has been set.

Sectional pairings for the 52nd annual IHSAA Volleyball State Tournament were unveiled on Sunday evening.

This year, 397 teams will compete across four classifications.

Sectional play begins Tuesday, October 10 and continues through Saturday, October 14 at 64 sites across the state.

Champions will advance to a four-team regional on Saturday, October 21 to be followed by a single semi-state round on Saturday, October 28.

The four state championship matches will be contested at Ball State University’s Worthen Arena on Saturday, November 4.

Class 4A Sectional 14 at Franklin Community

Notes: Columbus East (8-17) is the defending champion, but enter tournament play as the second-lowest rated team in the sectional at 55th in Class 4A. Franklin Community is currently 18-8 and ranked 22nd in Class 4A. They are 4-0 against sectional opponents and have not dropped a set in those matches against Columbus East, Whiteland x2, and Shelbyville. East Central is 15-10 as of Sunday's pairings show. The Lady Trojans are 1-1 against sectional opponents, scoring a 3-0 win over Shelbyville and a 2-1 loss to Columbus East. East Central fell to Franklin Community (3-0) in round one last season.

Class 3A Sectional 29 at Batesville

Notes: Greensburg (12-14) is the defending champion. The Lady Pirates are 5-3 against sectional opponents with wins over Rushville, Connersville, South Dearborn and Franklin County x2. Their three losses have come to Lawrenceburg x2 and Batesville. Lawrenceburg (19-4) is currently the highest ranked team of the seven at #24 in Class 3A. Batesville (20-6) is close by at #29. The Lady Tigers are 7-0 against sectional opponents, including a 3-2 win over Batesville. They will meet again on Thursday prior to the start of postseason play. South Dearborn ranks 72nd out of 102 teams in Class 3A. The Lady Knights are 8-14 and hold two win each over Franklin County and Rushville.

Class 2A Sectional 45 at Southwestern (Hanover)

Notes: Hauser (18-12) is the defending champion. South Ripley is having a strong season at 17-9. The Lady Raiders are 6-2 against sectional opponents, including a 3-1 win over defending champion Hauser. Milan (7-11) is 3-2 against sectional opponents. They have wins over South Ripley, Southwestern and Switzerland County. Milan's two losses against sectional opponents have come against South Ripley and North Decatur.

Notes: Edinburgh (6-15) is the defending champion. All seven teams rank in the Top 50 in Class 1A: Oldenburg Academy (13), South Decatur (32), Morristown (42), Jac-Cen-Del (44), Waldron (46), Edinburgh (47), Southwestern Shelbyville (50).

Notes: Trinity Lutheran (15-12) is the defending champion. They currently rank #5 in Class 1A. Rising Sun is ranked 29th in Class 1A. The Lady Shiners are 15-8 and are 2-0 versus sectional opponents with wins over Crothersville and New Washington.
