Rising Sun's Cole, Milan's Schmidt Earn ORVC Weekly Honors

The fall sports season is nearing its end, but not before some great performances were put in.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) – Rising Sun’s Landon Cole and Milan’s Maggie Schmidt are among last week’s top performers in the Ohio River Valley Conference.

The ORVC report for September 24-29 was released on Wednesday.

Landon Cole captured the ORVC Boys Soccer Player of the Week award by scoring four goals in two matches last week.

The ORVC Girls Soccer Player of the Week went to Maggie Schmidt. The Lady Indians star tallied two goals and one assist last week.

South Ripley’s Elexah Roepke and Shawe Memorial’s Kate Grote are the ORVC Volleyball Players of the Week.

Roepke recorded 65 kills, 36 digs, 7 aces and completed 92 percent of her serves and 87 percent of her passes over a four-match stretch.

Grote was equally impressive with 56 kills, 17 aces, 6 blocks and an 84 percent serve stat in three matches.

In cross country, the regular season wrapped up with the ORVC Meet at Hanover College on September 29. South Ripley was the winner of the 2018 Girls Cross Country Championship, their first title since 1996. Lady Raiders star Megan Cole was the individual champion with a time of 19:56.

On the boys side, Southwestern took home the conference championship. Bradley Winston was first across the finish line with a time of 17:22.
