CROSS COUNTRY

Submitted by Jonathan Meyer

The Flash Rock Invitational is a very large Cross Country race hosted in Carmel, Indiana. It is watched by many to see which teams will be state contenders. There are over 40 schools present at this gigantic event. When you double that number with both boys and girls running, it is a huge amount of participants.

Due to the large size of the meet, the varsity teams are divided into two categories: the “Elite” race and the “Invitational” varsity. The Elite race boasted many of the top teams in the state. Recall that Cross Country does not have divisions in Indiana, this is like the Milan days in 1954- no divisions or classes.

The ECHS Lady Trojans were invited to be in the Elite race! This is a great honor. There were 18 teams in this race;180 Individuals. Callie Bently placed 13th, Jena Weiler 26th, Addie Brewer 61st, Emily Klem 75th, and Alyssa Donawerth 96th. Their team score put them in 9th place! This is a great placement for the

Trojans so early in the season. For the Boys, Bradyn Hatton ran in the Elite Race as well. He ran a good race for where he is right now; with continued healing that is needed from an earlier cold, Hatton will regain his stride. He placed 62nd in a time of 17:16.

The Trojan boys raced in the Varsity Invitation 5K. They placed 14th out of 18 teams. The top runners were Abe Hiltz- 76, Gavin Hicks- 97, Spencer Lyon- 100, Anthony Toler- 103, and Jacob Scudder- 124. Ayden Fehrman obtained a PR on this steaming hot course
