INDIANAPOLIS – Ten high school basketball players from southeastern Indiana have earned Academic All-State honors.
The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association today announced the 550 players that earned either First Team Academic All-State or Honorable Mention.
Only 69 boys and girls from across the state were named to the First Team, including Lawrenceburg senior Lizzie Redar, Rising Sun senior Peyton Merica, and Batesville senior Cole Pride.
Those receiving honorable mention are Rhys Hofer (East Central), Dylan Martin (Rising Sun), Cora Deputy (Batesville), Caitlyn Dick (East Central), Makayla Granger-Young (Batesville), Mya McNew (South Ripley), and Julia Tiemann (East Central).
When making selections, the IBCA Academic All-State program considers GPA, academic class rank, SAT and ACT scores and athletic performance in areas such as points, rebounds, and assists per game.
IBCA-member head coaches from schools across the state may nominate their senior student-athletes who meet criteria that include a 3.5 GPA or higher, a class rank in the upper 25 percent and either an SAT score of 1100 or an ACT composite score of 24.
