Eight Student Athletes Earn Player of the Week Honors from ORVC

(Milan, Ind.) - Eight student athletes have been recognized as player of the week in their respective sports by the Ohio River Valley Conference. 

The ORVC Report for August 4-23 was released on Tuesday. 

South Ripley's Kaiya Rinear was named the ORVC Volleyball Player of the Week. She totaled 36 kills, 30 aces, 56 digs and a serve percentage fo 93 percent over six matches. 

In boys soccer, Jaxon Higgins (Southwestern) and Gus Grote (Shawe) earned Co-Player of the Week honors. Higgins scored five goals against Shoals, while Grote scored four goals in two matches, including a hat trick against Oldenburg Academy. 

The ORVC Girls Soccer Players of the Week are Emma Parsons (Switz. Co.) and Cassidy Derico (Milan). Parsons tallied seven goals and an assist in two matches. Derico earned the weekly honor with seven goals and two assists over three matches. 

Switzerland County's Alexis Mangold is the ORVC Girls Golfer of the Week. The Pacers' star played seven rounds, finishing with the following scores. 

  • 47 at Belterra / 44 @ Belterra / 97 @ Sunrise / 48 @ Hidden Valley / 44 @ Belterra / 42 @ Hillcrest / 44 @ Butler Falls

Milan's Gabe Riehle and Southwestern's Savannah Nussbaum are the Cross Country Performers of the Week. Riehle had times of 17:21 and 16:42, while Nussbaum ran a 21:21 in her lone event.
