East Central Wins Wrestling Sectional Title, Several SEI Stars Advance to Regional

(Aurora, Ind.) - The IHSAA Boys Wrestling State Tournament got underway on Saturday with 32 sectional tournaments going on throughout the state. 

Locally, two sectionals were held at South Dearborn and Jennings County high schools. 

At South Dearborn, East Central was crowned champions, holding off second-place Milan and third-place Franklin County. The Trojans were led by three individual sectional champions: Nyden Euson, Brody Wingate, and Jaxsin Prater.

120 - Carson Weiler (Batesville, So.) defeated Briggs Tackett (Rushville, Jr.) by Dec. 6-0

  • 3rd Place: Andrew Lewis (East Central, So.), 4th Place: Cain Hopkins (South Dearborn, Sr.) 

126 - Jayden Coy (South Dearborn, So.) defeated Anthony Cox by MD 16-8

  • 2nd Place: Andrew Cox (Franklin Co. Fr.), 3rd Place: Kolton Harris (Milan, Jr.), 4th Place: Ayden Couch (Lawrenceburg, Jr.)

132 - Matthew Baylor (Milan, Sr.) defeated Liam Hubbartt by fall (1:05)

150 - Noah Reffitt (Union County, Sr.) defeated Tyler Stenger by Dec. 21-16

157 - Zander Schaefer (South Dearborn, Sr.) defeated Huston Cook by TF 16-1 (5:19)

165 - Nyden Euson (East Central, Sr.) defeated Jayden Disbro by fall (1:56)

215 - Sam Pavey (Rushville, Sr.) defeated Max Nelson by Dec. 11-5

  • 2nd Place: Max Nelson (Lawrenceburg, So.), 3rd Place: Austyn Kolter (East Central, So.)

285 - Seth Graham (Lawrenceburg, Jr.) defeated David Miller by Dec. 5-1

  • 2nd Place: David Miller, Jr. (East Central, So.)

At the Jennings County Sectional, Switzerland County placed third and Madison was fifth. For the Pacers, they had three sectional champs: Leonard Oatman (So.) at 113 pounds, Ethan Rose (Sr.) at 132 and Peyton Richards (Sr.) at 138. Michael Gross qualified for regional after finishing second at 120 and Aillan Hartley moves on at 126 after a fourth-place finish. 

Madison's Drew Zuckschwerdt (Jr.) was the champion at 126. Other regional qualifiers for the Cubs include: 

  • Segar Ralston (So.) 3rd at 150
  • Zane Skinner (Sr,) 3rd at 157
  • Brendan Bentz (So) 3rd at 165
  • Garrett Deuser (So.) 3rd at 215
