East Central Girls Cross Country Qualifies for State Finals

(St. Leon, Ind.) – History was made on Saturday at the IHSAA Cross Country Regional event at Shelbyville.

For the second time in program history, East Central has a team advancing to the State Cross Country Meet.

The Lady Trojans finished fifth at the Shelbyville Regional, punching their ticket to this Saturday’s state finals at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.

Junior Callie Bentley was the Trojans’ top performer, placed 6th with a time of 18:20. Sophomore Jena Weiler placed 15th with a season personal record of 18:57.

Emily Klem tied her fastest time with a 19:56 (44th place). Freshman Alyssa Donawerth placed 52nd over (20:07) and senior Addie Brewer finished 62nd with a 20:15.

Senior Delaney Donawerth who ran 21:19, placed 112th while junior Faith Harmeyer ran 21:29, placing117th.

The Indiana State Finals will consist of 25 teams and 208 of the best runners in the state. The girls race will begin at noon. Gates open at 9:30 a.m.
