Batesville, East Central Compete at Hoosier State Relays

The event was held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis on Saturday night.

INDIANAPOLIS - Batesville and East Central competed at the prestigious Hoosier State Relays (HSR), aka the Indoor State Meet at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis on Saturday night. 

Batesville had three individuals and five relay teams qualify for the event, while East Central had two relay teams and three individuals qualify. To qualify, athletes and relays competed in specific indoor meets starting in the beginning of March. These times and distances were then reported and the top 24 in each event qualified. 

Hoosier State Relays - Small School 

  • Girls Teams Scores: Batesville placed 11th out of 49 teams

Hoosier State Relays - Large School 

  • Girls Team Scores: East Central placed 25th out of 43 teams
  • Boys Team Scores: East Central placed 33rd out of 44 teams

For Batesville, they had three medal-winning performances by placing in the top 8. Ella King placed 8th in the shot put (36'7.75"), the 4 x 800m relay team of Bayleigh Demaree, Jayla Bedel, Paige Allgeier and Ava Wade, placing 4th (9:55.21), cutting 15 seconds from their qualifying time and the Distance Medley Relay of Jayla Bedel, Bayleigh Demaree, Caitlin Raver and Ava Wade, placing 7th (13:10.28), running 16 seconds faster than. 

Also competing and just missing the podium by less than a second was our boys 4 x 400m relay team of James Rowland, Cash Myers, Noah Davis and Cannon Clark, placing 9th. The girls 4 x 400m relay of Bayleigh Demaree, Maggie Jelinek, Francesca Myers and Abby Miller also ran a great race, but was just 2.5 seconds shy of the podium as they placed 11th.

Others qualifying and competing on Saturday were the girls 4 x 200m relay team of Maggie Jelinek, Avi Miller, Rosie Gilland and Abby Miller, Jenna Goldsmith in long jump and Gavin Britch in the 60m hurdles. 

East Central's 4x400 meter relay team of Leah Toney, Lauryn Huber, Gabrielle Cleary, and Gabrielle Karle placed 20th with a time of 4:13.25. The 4x800 meter relay team of Leah Toney, Gabrielle Cleary, Faith Harmeyer and Gabrielle Karle placed 19th (10:02.73).

Health Albrinck earned a medal by finishing third in the pole vault (11-03.00). Reagan Whitehead also competed in the event. 

Trevor Perkins medaled in the 60 meter hurdles, placing fifth with a time of 8.06.
