(Aurora, Ind.) - South Dearborn High School has a new boys varsity basketball head coach, pending school board approval.

Athletic Director Ryan Walston announced Monday night that Brad Moorhead has been recommended to take over the vacant position following Patrick Cosgrove's exit last month

Moorhead would become the first alumnus to head the South Dearborn boys' basketball program. He was his classes' valedictorian in 2012 and former varsity letter winner.

"This isn't just an external hire, it's a Knight returning home, someone who has walked the halls and worn the jersey. That inherent connection can foster a strong sense of pride and buy-in from the players, students, and community," said Walston.

Moorhead has recently served as a varsity assistant at Edgewood High School, contributing to sectional and conference championships. He has experience as a head coach at the junior varsity level at Martinsville High School.

Coaching is in his blood. His grandfather, William "Gus" Moorhead, coached coached at Versailles High School for 15 years before it was consolidated into South Ripley High School - where he coached for two seasons. Brad's father, Rob, was the last South Dearborn head coach to led the Knights to a sectional championship during the 1994-95 season, and his brother, Trent, current coaches at Hauser, where he has gone 53-24 in four years including a sectional and regional title last season.

Coach Moorhead's enthusiastic "GO KNIGHTS" from his valedictorian speech underscores his enduring connection to South Dearborn. This genuine passion and pride in his alma mater are invaluable assets as he steps into this leadership role," added Walston.

The school board vote on the recommendation to make Moorhead's hiring official at the May meeting.

Moorhead would inherit a Knights team that went 16-10 last season, and is set to return key players such as Scout Gray, Tyler Christian, Ben Shorten, Mason Hamlett, Brady Ballart, and Wyatt Adams.
