UPDATE: Work Truck Crashes into Ravine in Petersburg

Update published Friday, August 22 at 9:50 AM: 

On Thursday, August 21, 2025, at approximately 7:07 p.m., Boone County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 2400 block of Lawrenceburg Ferry Road

Road Safety Systems LLC were contracted to install guardrails in the area.

Robert Kinsella, 42, of Hopewell Junction, New York, was operating a 2013 Freightliner M21 equipped with a rear-mounted post drive. While operating the vehicle from its rear control panel, the truck, for unknown reasons, backed over an embankment and overturned pinning Kinsella.

During the incident, the truck also struck Gregory Ray, 42, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.

Deputies along with fire personnel responded and initiated life-saving measures. Gregory Ray was airlifted to UC Medical Center, where he is currently listed in stable condition with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Robert Kinsella was pronounced deceased at the scene.

(Petersburg, Ky.) - First responders were called to a fatal single vehicle accident on Thursday evening in Petersburg. 

A work truck reportedly crashed into a ravine along Lawrenceburg Ferry Road around 7:00 p.m.

Two people were passengers in the work truck that fell approximately 30 feet into the ravine. One of the passengers suffered fatal injuries and the other is hospitalized. 

Crews remained on the scene into the early morning hours Friday to remove the truck from the ravine.
