(Batesville, Ind.) – Lane shifts will begin this week on Interstate 74 between Sunman and New Point.
The Indiana Department of Transportation says all westbound traffic on I-74 will shift to the left lane on Thursday to facilitate removal of concrete barrier walls and placement of pavement markings along the right lane section.
INDOT officials expect to re-open the westbound right lane on Sunday, November 11.
As of Wednesday, the westbound I-74 rest area near Batesville is closed. The rest area will re-open on Saturday. Meanwhile, the eastbound rest area will re-open today.
INDOT says Phase II operations of the $61 million pavement replacement along 12.8 miles of I-74 is coming to a close for the 2018 construction season in advance of the winter season.
However, after Thanksgiving, a subcontractor will begin work at an embankment slide near Wester Creek. The work will require closing a short section eastbound I-74’s right lane and outside shoulder near mile marker 153.7.
Once 2019 rolls around, INDOT’s contractor, Milestone will continue work, rebuilding westbound I-74 lanes.
