(Batesville, Ind.) – The “Walk To End Alzheimer’s” is returning to Batesville this month.

Community members are being asked to step up in support of the fight against Alzheimer’s disease at the Southeast Indiana Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, August 24.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati, an estimated 5.8 million Americans are affected by the disease – including an estimated 55,000 people in southwest Ohio, southeast Indiana and northern Kentucky.

The event will take place at Liberty Park. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m. with the walk following at 10:00.

Although there is no registration fee, participants are encouraged to collect donations.

Last year, nearly 500 participants raised more than $45,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.

“Alzheimer’s disease touches many families in Southeastern Indiana. The Walk is a way for the community to come together in support of these families and the services and programs we provide,” said Hannah Volz, Special Events Manager with the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati. “We have been overwhelmed by the community’s interest and support of the Alzheimer’s Association.”

This year’s event will feature special pre-walk and post-walk ceremonies, food and refreshments. Radio icon Jim Scott will also be on-hand as the event’s emcee.
