American Veterans Travelling Tribute
(Versailles, Ind.) - A replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. will appear in Versailles this summer.
The Ripley County Veterans Memorial Committee has announced the American Veterans Travelling Tribute will be at the Southeast Career Center on July 18-22.
The 360-foot travelling wall is an 80 percent scale replica of the memorial in the nation’s capitol, still including the names of all 58,253 American soldiers who died in the Vietnam conflict.
The visit will be highlighted by a ceremony on the July 21 at South Ripley High School honoring Vietnam Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Medal recipients. Local Vietnam veterans will also be recognized.
The wall’s visit is largely funded by a $14,966 grant from the Rising Sun Regional Foundation awarded in October.
