By Travis Thayer Photo by Florence Police Dept. Update published Wednesday, April 5 at 7:09 a.m.: A Union man died in a crash on I-71/75 in Florence on Tuesday. It was just before noon when a box truck began to have mechanical issues on the southbound side of I-71/75 near Donaldson Road, accoridng to Florence Police Captian Tom Grau. As the driver tried to change lanes, the box truck was struck from behind by an Owen Electric work truck driven by 50-year-old Callen Cheesman. Grau says Cheesman was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to please contact the Florence Police Department, (859) 647-5420. Update published Tuesday, April 4 at 3:30 p.m.: Wreckage from a fatal accident on Interstate 71/75 has been cleared. All lanes on I-71/75 are now open, but motorists should expect long delays and stop and go traffic. The Donaldson Highway ramps to I-71/75 have also re-opened. At least one person was reportedly killed in the accident. The name of the victim has not been released. Original story published Tuesday, April 4 at 12:39 p.m.: (Florence, Ky.) - A fatal crash is halting traffic on Interstate 71/75 in Florence. The accident was reported around 12:20 p.m. on Interstate 71/75 southbound just past the Donaldson exit. The accident is reportedly blocking the right and center, southbound lanes. The Donaldson Highway ramps to I-71/75 are also blocked. Motorists should expect long delays, and are advised to use an alternative route, if possible.
