(Greensburg, Ind.) - On Friday, April 17, Decatur County Communications received a report of a stolen vehicle that was westbound on Interstate 74 near the 171-mile marker.

The Greensburg Police Department, Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, and other agencies traveled to I-74 where the vehicle was located by a Decatur County Sheriff's deputy near the 138-mile maker.

The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the suspect fled in the stolen vehicle. The suspect led police on a several mile vehicle pursuit. The suspect nearly caused several accidents with motorists in the construction zone of I-74 and nearly caused crashes with assisting police vehicles.

The suspect missed tire deflation devices and exited onto North State Road 3, then re-entered the I-74 eastbound at the 134-mile marker. While fleeing east, the suspect swerved and nearly hit a deputy who was attempting to place tire deflation devices in the roadway. The deputy ran into a nearby ditch and was still able to successfully deploy the tire deflation devices.

The suspect continued driving east on I-74 and pulled over into a ditch. At this time, the suspect surrendered and was apprehended by the Greensburg Police Department without incident. Police identified the driver as Dreonne McComb, 19, of Dayton, OH.

As the first fleeing vehicle was in active pursuit, Decatur County Communications received a report that a second separate Jeep Wrangler was reported stolen and also had a broken window. It was traveling west bound on I-74 nearing the 143 MM near New Point, and Ripley County Sheriff's Department began the pursuit.

The vehicle exited near New Point, and Greensburg Police officers and Decatur County Sheriff deputies intercepted it. The Jeep fled officers, leading them east on State Road 46 through Batesville, and ultimately ending in Franklin County east of Batesville. The suspect in operation of the second stolen vehicle was apprehended by police following a vehicle crash and a short foot pursuit.

The driver was placed in custody without incident by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Dept. The driver was identified as Tayvion M. Hill-Ware, 23, of Dayton, OH.

The investigation is ongoing.
